A/N: This is a bit of a dig into Rivaille’s character as shown through the eyes of Irvin. I like to think the two of them share a deeper bond than they like to let off. This story is meant to take place before the events of Shingeki no Kyojin.
… … … … …There was blood on Rivaille’s cheek when he walked into Irvin’s office. The sight was so startling that the commander of the Scouting Legion dropped the papers in his hand, scattering them across the floor as he took two long steps to close the space between them to grab Rivaille’s chin to inspect the damage. The younger soldier shrugged out of his grasp, turning away.
“It’s just a scratch,” he said flatly, turning to collapse onto the couch sitting in the middle of the room.
Irvin hesitated for a moment, watching Rivaille sightlessly stare off at the wall, watching a distant scene only known to him. It wasn’t often that the commander saw the younger boy like this; Rivaille was notorious about his cleanliness. There were very few times that he had ever seen the boy ignore cleaning, and this was one of them.
